Chris Haugen

Guitar, Lap Steel, Ukulele, Weissenborn

Chris Haugen is a nationally recognized guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. With years of experience recording and performing popular and folk styles, Chris helps beginner to advanced guitarists build skills on guitar, slide guitar, lap steel, Weissenborn, and more.

As a teacher, Chris encourages students to learn the music they want to play. “Music is a lifetime of learning and enjoyment, self-expression, and imagination,” he says. “It’s jamming with friends, time to unwind, and beach bonfires.” Chris is equally at home working with both acoustic and electric guitar students.

Chris’ music and teaching practice draws deeply on thirty years of yoga practice and surfing in Northern California. A personal highlight is having accompanied surf legend and yogi Gerry Lopez at his yin yoga class at Wanderlust.

Chris released his new album, First Light, in June 2022. “The album is a deep meditation steeped in hope and vision, with the intent of bringing a sense of calm and connection to listeners,” Chris says.

Chris’s long list of collaborations and performances includes artists JJ Cale, Taj Mahal, Derek Trucks, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Charlie Musselwhite, Les Claypool, String Cheese Incident, Darol Anger, and many more. He collaborated with actor Sean Penn on the music for the film Into the Wild.

“Chris is one of the most talented musicians I have ever met. He is a skillful, thoughtful, creative teacher,” says one student.
