Now Hiring: Full-Time Luthier

Dusty Strings Music Store & School is looking for a full-time luthier dedicated to providing excellent quality musical instrument repairs, while working in a lively, fun, team-oriented environment that is committed to bringing music and musical instruments into people’s lives.

The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Deep knowledge of the anatomy, structure, and history of fretted instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins, banjos, and ukuleles.
  • Extensive experience performing repairs, including: setups, making nuts and saddles, fret replacement and leveling, crack repair, pickup installation, finish touch-ups, and other repair work, potentially up to the level of dovetail neck resets. 
  • Outstanding customer service skills. Our job is first and foremost dedicated to helpful customer interactions and sales. We seek to make every customer feel sincerely welcome and at-home.
  • A dedication to learning. Our industry is ever-evolving and full of details, which means actively seeking opportunities to learn about products that change frequently, as well as learning about unfamiliar products well enough to take on repairs that require developing new skills or approaches. 
  • Ability to work well with a small team. We are a very small team and rely on each other to be capable and efficient, to support and answer questions as needed, along with collaborating with other luthiers in the repair shop while being comfortable with constructive criticism as needed. 
  • Clear communication, as well as the ability to seek out information on one’s own and communicate to others when help is needed.
  • An outstanding work ethic. We need a self-starter and multitasker, someone who seeks out opportunities to be productive and contribute to the success of Dusty Strings.

Job Requirements:

  • 18 years or older.
  • Completed COVID-19 vaccine, except as necessary to accommodate disability or religious belief.
  • Previous musical instrument repair experience. 
  • A musical background and a passion for the technical side of musical instruments and gear.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
