Now Hiring: Retail Sales Position

Dusty Strings Music Store & School is looking for an individual dedicated to providing excellent customer service, while working in a lively, fun, team-oriented environment that is committed to bringing music and musical instruments into people’s lives.

Dusty Strings is actively seeking to increase diversity in our workplace. We invite applicants of all backgrounds, ethnicity, color, gender, and LGBTQ+ identity to apply.

The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Outstanding customer service skills. Our job is first and foremost dedicated to helpful customer interactions and sales. We seek to make every customer feel sincerely welcome and at-home. Be proactive about greeting and checking in with customers and carefully listening to their needs.
  • A dedication to learning. Our industry is ever-evolving and full of details, which means actively seeking opportunities to learn about products that change frequently, as well as learning about unfamiliar products well enough to help a customer at a professional level. This also includes learning about products, sales, and customer service from coworkers.
  • Ability to work well with a small team. We are a very small team and rely on each other to be capable and efficient, as well as to be there to support and answer questions as needed. We require clear communication as well as the ability to seek out information on one’s own.
  • An outstanding work ethic. We need a self-starter and multitasker, someone who seeks out opportunities to be productive and contribute to the success of the team and the store. This includes balancing customer interactions with answering phones and emails, and taking on administrative, store maintenance, and cleaning tasks when customer traffic is slow.
  • Genuine excitement over musical instruments. While a passion for music is important, and we work hard to foster that in others, this job requires excitement over the instruments themselves—how they’re made, their history, what other products are comparable on the market, how to create the sound the customer is after, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • 18 years or older.
  • Completed COVID-19 vaccine, except as necessary to accommodate disability or religious belief.
  • Previous customer service, retail, and/or sales experience.
  • A musical background and a passion for the technical side of musical instruments and gear.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.

To apply:

  1. Download a fillable PDF Retail Staff Application (link above).
  2. Complete the application, along with a cover letter and resume (optional).
  3. You may visit our store to apply in person, or email us the application to music@dustystrings.com with “Retail Sales” in the email subject line.
