Now Hiring: Music School Coordinator Position

Dusty Strings Music Store & School is looking for an individual dedicated to promoting music education to be our Music School Coordinator. The Dusty Strings Music School fosters a lively, fun, team-oriented environment and is committed to bringing music and musical instruments into people’s lives.

Dusty Strings, as a store and a school, is dedicated to serving the needs of the Seattle music community – particularly the folk music community – providing the resources to allow members of the community to grow and flourish.  We feature a large showroom of acoustic and electric instruments for sale, a repair shop, and a spacious music school that offers private lessons and group classes.

As the Music School Coordinator you will be in charge of running the school day-to-day, overseeing our faculty of teachers, and working with students.  You will report directly to the store manager.  Hours will be 32-40 per week, with some flexibility for evenings or weekends required.

Duties:

  • Be the warm, friendly face of the Music School
  • Monitor daily schedule of private lessons, group classes, workshops, and free jams and meetups 
  • Coordinate the yearly schedule of group classes, workshops, recitals, and events
  • Keep staff, faculty and students informed on the latest school offerings
  • Pursue lesson leads for new students and help them get started in the school
  • Help recruit new faculty members
  • Promote the music school via flyers, online listings, and social media
  • Keep school spaces clean and tidy at all times

Job Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Completed COVID-19 vaccine, except as necessary to accommodate disability or religious belief
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • A musical background and a passion for education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic math and computer skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with promotion, via social media and print advertising
  • Familiarity with image editing software
  • Knowledgeable about American roots music, playing styles, and music history
  • Ability to play one or more instruments

Compensation:

  • $20 - $25/hour starting pay, depending on experience and qualifications, with regular reviews for merit raises

Teaching Faculty

Dusty Strings Music School is looking for talented, knowledgeable, and passionate music educators for all ages, including 5 – 18 year olds. We are specifically looking for teachers for the following instruments:

  • Banjo – clawhammer/old-time
  • Cello – classical and contemporary, bluegrass; Suzuki or other method
  • Fiddle – old-time, bluegrass, country
  • Flute/Pennywhistle/Winds – folk/traditional, Celtic, Native American, classical
  • Guitar – acoustic and electric, total beginner to intermediate/advanced
  • Hammered Dulcimer – traditional/folk, contemporary
  • Harp – folk/traditional, Celtic, classical, contemporary
  • Mandolin – folk/traditional, bluegrass, blues, Western Swing, Choro
  • Viola – classical and contemporary; Suzuki or other method
  • Violin – classical and contemporary; Suzuki or other method
  • Voice and Singing – contemporary, indie and pop, musical theatre, jazz, confidence

Teachers must have a professional background in music and considerable teaching experience. Teachers must also pass a nationwide criminal background check. Because our teachers have independent contractors status, they must have a state and city business license in hand prior to beginning lessons in order to comply with tax regulations.
