Used Gibson J-45 (1966)
$3,595.00
A vintage slope-shoulder Gibson J-45 in great condition, dialed-in with low action and a straight neck and equipped with an L.R. Baggs M1 Active soundhole pickup. Gibson serial numbers in this period can get a little murky, but this one can fairly reliably be dated back to 1966. The '2' stamped below the serial number indicates this guitar was a factory second due to some cosmetic blemish, but the exact reason is obscured by 60 years of general use and wear. This guitar is in excellent structural shape with a properly-set neck affording optimal action with plenty of break angle over the original adjustable saddle.
There is evidence of a prior bridge reglue, with the bridge currently attached flush all the way along the perimeter with a very healthy looking bridge plate below the surface. A small section of the soundhole has been patched in the pickwear section just above the pickguard - a competent, discreet repair. There is also a small epoxy fill, around half the size of a dime, that presumably patches some minor impact damage to the back at the lower treble bout. There is some fretwear below the B string, most prominent on the first 5 frets, but it is not causing any buzzing issues and there's plenty of life in them yet.
Gibson dreadnoughts from the late slope-shoulder era have a feeling of rock-solid build quality, and this is no exception. This guitar has that classic dry Gibson tone with even balance and deep, snappy bass. Players that prefer a slender nut width will find this round C-shaped neck very agreeable. Includes a non-original chipboard case.
