Used Gibson L-4 (c. 1924)
$3,500.00
Built during the fabled Lloyd Loar era of Gibson archtop production, this L-4 is a sonorous and capable guitar in addition to being a notable piece of American instrument history. It is equipped with the rare and short-lived Virzi-Tone producer, which is a kind of secondary internal sound board designed to vibrate sympathetically and add harmonic content to the tone of the guitar. The exact qualities of the Virzi-Tone's influence are debated, but this guitar is particularly lively and resonant with heaps of vintage character and sustain. Freshly re-fretted by Dusty Strings expert repair team and playing beautifully with speedy low action. The chunky neck is quite comfortable in the hand thanks to a pronounced V-shape tapering off the shoulders. Most of the original lacquer is intact, with finish touchup limited to some repaired patches on the treble side. It appears to have had a past neck reset and heel-crack repair - exceptionally well-done and 100% stable. General finish wear throughout - see photos for cosmetic condition. Tuning machines are modern reproductions.
