Used Gibson ES-335 (1965)
$4,995.00
A refinished 1965 Gibson ES-335 in very good player-grade vintage condition, including the original patent no. humbuckers and the original hard-shell case. Modifications include an aftermarket brass nut, wrap tail conversion, and out-of-phase middle position wiring. Professionally and competently refinished black in the 1970s and holding up well, with wear limited to the general checks, dings, and scrapes one would expect from a 50-year-old nitrocellulose finish. There is evidence that a circular patch of the back was removed, directly opposite the output jack, presumably to repair some blowout damage around the jack. It was replaced before the refinish and is only visible from the lacquer telegraphing around its border.
This guitar sounds great both unplugged and amplified, very touch sensitive with tons of sustain. Setup to play comfortably with action measuring 4/64" from the 12th fret to the bottom of the outside strings with .005" relief in the neck and a smoothly functioning truss rod. The original patent number pickups sound excellent, a bit microphonic in the most satisfying ways, with the bridge measuring 7.19k and the neck 7.32k Ohms. The original covers have been removed. The harness includes the original Sprague capacitors and what appear to be original Centralab pots. The original hard-shell case is in good shape with all latches functioning properly.
