Used Ruhland A-5
$6,995.00
From the fourteenth batch of mandolins out of esteemed luthier Matt Ruhland's workshop, A-5 #82 is inspired by the legendary Gibson mandolins of the Lloyd Loar era and was handcrafted from premium materials in Portland, Oregon. At this time, Ruhland's waitlist is up to 2-1/2 years, and this example shows how deserving his work is of all the demand. This mandolin is pure class, featuring a carved Engelmann spruce top, an extravagantly quilted maple body, and a deep vintage-esque figured maple v-neck, all finished over with an impossibly thin spirit varnish.
Lightweight, perfectly balanced, and incredibly resonant, this instrument is a joy to hold and play, producing a polished, woody tone equally appropriate for old time, bluegrass, and classical styles. Extremely dynamic with immediate response, it sounds divine at any volume. In excellent condition with some finish wear on the lower treble bout edges of the top and back, presumably where an output jack clamp had been previously installed. A top crack has been professionally glued and cleated and is completely closed and 100% stable - a very well executed repair. There is no visible evidence of wear in the evo fretwire. Setup with a nice straight neck and optimal playing action.
