Description: Come work with special guest artist Christie Lenée and discover your musical expression! Learn to play with minimal effort and discover techniques for playing, improvisation, songwriting, and composition. A hands-on workshop, students will learn by using creative examples of fingerpicking patterns, chord progressions, and harmonization. Topics may also include rhythmic guitar slapping, finger tapping, chord voicings, open tunings, and creating memorable guitar riffs. By the end, you will have improved your guitar playing, gained further insight into fingerstyle guitar, and worked with one of today's brightest fingerstyle guitarists.
Skills Needed: This workshop is designed for advanced beginner to intermediate-level guitar players.
What to Bring: Your guitar in standard tuning and a recording device such as your smartphone. Please note: Dusty Strings cannot provide instruments for this workshop. Students who need an instrument should contact Dusty Strings ahead of time about purchasing and rentals. Participants may not use instruments for sale in the store for the workshop, and there is no guarantee there will be rentals available on the day of the workshop.
About the Teacher: 2017 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Christie Lenée views the guitar as an entire spectrum of musical possibilities. Rooted from the simplicity of seeing the guitar first as a tool for self-expression, she says that one of the greatest skills to develop as a musician is to be able to “play what you hear” and speak music as a language. “To feel relaxed, fluid and connected to the instrument is like breathing... and THAT is when the magic happens.”
