There is no better teacher than Christie to show you how to use your hands for musical expression on guitar! Christie weaves technique, improvisation, and songwriting and composition with the art of listening and playing with minimal effort. A hands-on workshop, students learn by using creative examples of fingerpicking patterns, chord progressions, and harmonization. Other topics include rhythmic guitar slapping, finger tapping, new chord voicings, using open tunings, and coming up with memorable guitar riffs. Students who wish to improve their guitar playing, gain further insight into fingerstyle guitar, and work with one of today’s brightest stars should not wait to register!
Skills Needed: This workshop is designed for advanced beginner to intermediate-level guitar players.
What to Bring: Your guitar in standard tuning and a recording device such as your smartphone. Please note: Dusty Strings does not provide instruments for workshops. Students who need an instrument should contact Dusty Strings ahead of time about purchasing and rentals. Participants may not use instruments for sale in the store for the workshop, and there is no guarantee there will be rentals available on the day of the workshop.
About the Teacher: 2017 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Christie Lenée views the guitar as an entire spectrum of musical possibilities. Rooted from the simplicity of seeing the guitar first as a tool for self-expression, she says that one of the greatest skills to develop as a musician is to be able to “play what you hear” and speak music as a language. “To feel relaxed, fluid and connected to the instrument is like breathing... and THAT is when the magic happens.”
