Used Gibson SG Special (1960)

A timeless classic from a historic era of American electric guitar production. Alternatively referred to by some as the Les Paul Special doublecut, this model appears in the 1960 Gibson catalog under the name SG Special, differing from the previous year's Les Paul Special doublecut by a slightly lower neck pickup position and the absence of the Les Paul script on the headstock overlay. With the exception of a fresh set of frets courtesy of the Dusty Strings repair team, this spectacular example is in all original condition with the original hardware, pickups, wiring harness, and brown Lifton hard case. The cherry stain has taken on a classic faded brown hue over the years, and the original lacquer finish has developed an attractive horizontal checking pattern, giving this guitar an unmistakable vintage swagger.

This guitar sports the comfortable and speedy slim neck profile typical of Gibson electrics from 1960. The P90 pickups have plenty of output in every switch position, with all the full-frequency muscle they are known for, ideal for pushing a tube amp into overdrive. The neck pickup reads 8.03k ohms and the bridge measures out to 8.26k ohms resistance. Weighing in at just a hair over 7.5lbs, it is lightweight and well-balanced and just feels great all-around. An iconic instrument from the golden age of Gibson guitars that does full justice to its legendary status.
