This workshop will take you on a musical journey, showing you strumming patterns and chord voicings to take your guitar playing to the next level.
Skills Needed: You should know basic chords and strumming. You don’t need to know how to play traditional or Celtic guitar.
What to Bring: Your guitar in standard tuning and a recording device such as your smartphone.
Teacher: Guitarist Ron Jappy was born and brought up in the small coastal village of Findochty in the North East of Scotland and began his musical journey when he received fiddle and piano lessons at primary school. Following a move to Glasgow to study fiddle at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, he began his journey as an accompanist after being inspired by a performance by Ross Ainslie and Innes Watson at the city’s Piping Centre. Today, he is recognized as one of Scotland’s most go to guitarists for traditional and folk music and has accompanied singers including Hannah Rarity, Iona Fyfe, and Joy Dunlop as well as performing with bands such as Mànran, Skerryvore, and the Scog Wood Band. He released his long awaited debut solo album Vincular in 2021 to rave reviews. Ron is a passionate educator of traditional music and regularly teaches guitar, fiddle, and groupwork for organizations throughout Scotland. His 2024 Vincular tour saw him work with local youth organizations to give them the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians.
