Used Martin D-28 (1944)
$74,995.00
A sublime 1944 Martin D-28 in extraordinary condition! This guitar is, remarkably, crack- and repair-free, all original with the exception of the tuner buttons, which were replaced here in our shop, and includes the rarely-seen original hardshell case.
The Brazilian rosewood back and sides are straight-grained with the deep, dark colors that makes Brazilian rosewood so visually striking. The neck is slim and straight (the nut measuring just a hair under the 1-11/16" width typical for 1944) with a noticeable V to the profile. The frets are worn but with life left in 'em. There is cosmetic wear, but not all that much, considering it's approaching 80 years of age. The guitar's voice is rich and articulate, powerful but not overpowering.
The Adirondack spruce top sports rear-shifted, scalloped bracing, and the ebony fingerboard features slotted diamond inlays, indicating this instrument is from eariler 1944. The guitar has the original Grover open-gear tuners, with peen-mounted posts and without post bushings, due to WWII-era metal restrictions. A strap button has been installed on the bass side of the upper bout and is securely fitted into the neck block.
This is truly one of those "Holy Grail" guitars, about as close to perfect as a guitar can be.
