We’ll learn a couple fairly simple arrangements of classic tunes from artists like Thelonious Monk and Gershwin. And we’ll unpack them a bit with a little fat-free theory, and explore how we might come up with our own improvised variations as fingerstyle guitar players.
Skills Needed: This will be a big tent intermediate class. Some prior experience in playing fingerstyle guitar would be good. Be able to form chords, maybe having played some scales. Should be something to learn and hopefully inspiring for anyone.
What to Bring: Bring a guitar. And consider using a phone or other audio recording device to record the whole class to refer back to.
Teacher: Pacific Northwest acoustic guitarist Eric Skye occupies a unique niche between folk, jazz and blues, between fingerstyle and flatpicking, and between composition and improvisation. Eric has released nine albums and toured throughout the country for many years.
“One of the purest, most musical flatpickers of the 21st Century” - Bluegrass Unlimited
“A perfect synthesis of eclectic influences” - Acoustic Guitar
“An uncanny ability to make the familiar sound new, and the new sound familiar" - Fretboard Journal
*Most classes and workshops are geared towards late-teens and adults. Younger learners will benefit most starting with private lessons.
