It’s a place where you can make lasting memories and meet people you never thought you would. A place where students, teachers, and staff can connect with the history, people, and traditions of American roots music.

We strive to create a safe, welcoming space for students to explore music without fear of judgment or embarrassment, no matter their age, level, or ability.

Now one of the oldest businesses in the core of Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, Dusty Strings has long been a community hub for acoustic music in Seattle and has stayed true to the founders' original goal of bringing music into people's lives. After decades of bringing local folks and top artists together for workshops, concerts, events, and jams, a growing interest in private lessons and classes fueled ideas of forming a music school. With the help of staff, local musicians, educators, and friends, the Dusty Strings Music School was officially founded in 2008.

Over the years, the teachers and offerings have expanded, and so has the school space. An exciting renovation in 2016 opened up more classroom space, improved the configuration of lesson rooms, and created a warm and welcoming school lobby. Introducing online lessons in 2020 helped the school reach new students across the country, stay connected with the community, and envision an exciting future of both online and in-person offerings.

Today, Dusty Strings is known as a premier brand of folk harps and hammered dulcimers and a destination music store, school, and repair shop. The school celebrated its fifteenth anniversary in 2023 and remains committed to providing high-quality music education for all ages and levels, expanding offerings for young people, and attracting a diverse student body and faculty for the next generation.
