Christmas is coming!

Learn to play Christmas carols on your harp in time for the holiday season. Using simple lead sheets, Rebecca will offer tips about arranging holiday favorites so they sound fresh and original. The workshop will cover the basics of harp accompaniment for three carols and include fun improvisational embellishments. Instruction will include some harmony essentials and harp techniques which will be applied to improvisation. Mastering these simple skills will give you the tools to arrange any tune on your harp all year.

Skills Needed: Elementary harp level and above. Attendees should be comfortable reading treble clef and playing simple left-hand chords.

What to Bring: Harp (be able to access the keys of C & G), notebook, pencil, a recording device is optional. Rebecca will provide handouts. Need a harp? Dusty Strings can provide a loaner harp for the workshop. Please call the store (206) 634-1662 at least a week beforehand as loaners are subject to availability. 

Teacher: Rebecca Blair is an active freelance harpist in the Vancouver, B.C. music scene, performing and recording as both a soloist and with groups such as Triskellion. Her music career spans thirty years and embraces Celtic, popular and classical styles. Rebecca’s audiences include the President of Ireland, the Irish Consul General, and the International Bar Association. She has focused on improvisation and expanding the lever harp’s potential, especially with popular music. Her studies have taken her all over North America and Ireland to attend harp workshops with notable harpists. Rebecca loves teaching harp to students of all ages and levels. *Most classes and workshops are geared towards late-teens and adults. Younger learners will benefit most starting with private lessons.
