In early 20th century, when guitarists accompanied blues singers and were improvising single-string guitar solos, there was little difference between urban blues and jazz. Guitarists Lonnie Johnson, Eddie Lang, and Scrapper Blackwell epitomized this style, which influenced the later electric styles of T-Bone Walker, Charlie Christian, and B.B. King. This style can be done finger style but is more commonly done with a plectrum (pick). Learn a classic blues tune, new chords, and techniques for single-string soloing.
Skills Needed: Some knowledge of blues music, barred chords (or jazz equivalents) will help participants in this class for guitarists at intermediate and above skill levels.
What to Bring: Please bring your guitar. Please give us a call if you think your guitar might need a tune-up!
Teacher: Eric Madis is a working musician, recording artist and has taught guitar throughout the US and Canada since 1976.
*Most classes and workshops are geared towards late-teens and adults. Younger learners will benefit most starting with private lessons.
