Piano, Voice, and Bluegrass Fiddle
Nathaniel is a full time recording artist, sound engineer and pianist who graduated from Tufts University where he minored in music and played in multiple jazz ensembles and bands. He's also spent the summers playing jazz piano twice a week at a fine dining Italian restaurant.
Nathaniel has experience teaching piano lessons to people of all ages and skill levels, and has been teaching in California and Washington for the last 3-4 years. "I believe that music lessons, especially for beginners and children, should be fun!! I specialize in alternative teaching methods for students who haven’t connected with traditional lessons, although I’m also happy to teach using traditional sight-reading materials."
Aside from teaching piano, Nathaniel is a regular performer at many Seattle venues as well as a sound engineer at Sendai Studios and Avast Recording Studios.
“...find the fun in practicing.”
When were you first introduced to music and what got you “hooked”?
I was first introduced to the violin as a six year old. Despite being slower at learning than my classmates, I had an immediate love for music and would spend hours playing even as a young child. Once I figured out how to play piano, sing, and play jazz, my interest grew even further!
What is one of your most memorable experiences as a performer?
I’ve played hundreds of shows across Washington, Seattle and LA but the most memorable still has to be when I was 11 and I got to sing on stage with Jason Mraz.
Do you have any good practice tips for music students or musicians in general?
In order to get better you must find things in your practice routine that you really enjoy doing. Once you find the fun in practicing, it’s easy to stay consistent and put in the hours that will make you a better musician. Also, the better you get, the more fun playing music will become.
