Santa Cruz allows you almost infinite ways to gild a lily – adding cocobolo to the venerable OM Pre-War model turns out to be one of the better ones. The stunning set on this instrument are not only eye-catching, it also adds a sonorous chime in the lower midrange, giving this guitar a little extra something, making it respond incredibly well for both the flatpicker and the fingerstyle guitarist, without adding the heft one usually associates with cocobolo. The Sitka spruce top really lets this guitar sing, too – wide open and balanced. Adirondack spruce bracing affixed with hot hide glue, ebony buttons on the Waverly tuner, an ebony headstock overlay and a cocobolo rosette nicely complement the standard OM Pre-War features.
