Used W.A. Cole Used W.A. Cole c. 1900. While it's difficult to place a definitive date on this instrument; by comparing its features and serial number (7720) to other known examples, it's safe to say that this was built just after, or slightly prior to the turn of the last century. W.A. Cole made instruments at several different tiers, and this example coincides with their top-of-the-line Eclipse Model 5000. The ornate inlay, the carved heel, the spun-over and bound rim are all hallmarks of this presentation grade instrument. The good news - the instrument is in generally good order, with many original parts. That said, despite a recent neck reset, set-up, and new head; the action is still fairly high past the seventh fret due to a slight rise near the body joint of the neck and every reasonable solution would put the exquisite inlay at risk. Still, it's a good sounding open back instrument, and the action is nearly perfect for clawhammer...and priced accordingly. Includes the original hardshell case.
