The purpose of this workshop is to give you a sense of the craft and process of songwriting. I hope to give you some basic tools for writing your own songs and introduce you to some of the personal, artistic, and professional opportunities songwriting can provide. We’ll listen to some examples of contemporary pop and musical theatre songs then get started with writing exercises designed to light up your creativity and set you on your way. You don’t need to be able to sing or play an instrument to take this workshop. Please do not bring any original songs, poetry, or lyrics. Other than a pen with ink and notebook with plenty of blank pages, all you need are your ears, eyes, and heart.
