“Nana ka maka; ho’olohe ka pepeiao.” Translation: watch with the eyes and listen with the ears; thus, one learns. Join Hawaiian slack key masters Sonny Lim, Kamuela Kimokeo, and Jeff Peterson for their popular yearly workshops focusing on slack key guitar. Designed to build on individual skills, this class engages each student at their own level and speed. “We teach the way we were taught,” says Slack Key Festival organizer Chelle Pahinui. “It is an excellent way to understand the deeper levels of kiho’alu and Hawaiian music so that your music will come from the heart.”

Skills Needed: For early intermediate to advanced guitar players.

What to Bring: Please bring your guitar and a tuner. Chord charts and song sheets will be provided. Masks are encouraged and may be required by the teacher.
