Young Musicians Workshop: Fiddle Camp - Early Bird

For ages 7 - 13. The foundation of this camp is old-time fiddle tunes from North America and Europe. In addition to learning how to hold, tune, and care for their instrument, students will learn to play classic old-time fiddle tunes by ear, such as "All the Pretty Little Horses" and "Shady Grove." The final day will feature a short performance for friends and family featuring the songs they’ve learned. Students should have a working fiddle appropriate to their size (¼, ½, ¾, or full), which may be purchased or rented from Hammond Ashley Violins in Issaquah. A PortaStand Minstrel music stand and recording device are also recommended.

Young Musicians Workshop: Guitar Camp Session 1 - Early Bird

For ages 11 - 14. Start reading sheet music and TAB (guitar notation), learn basic chords and the scales upon which they're built, and a few riffs. Songs by Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Billy Eilish, Sam Mendes, and others make up the learning material. The final day will feature a short performance for friends and family featuring the songs they’ve learned. Students should have a working six-string guitar of an appropriate size*, which may be purchased or rented through the store. A tuner, music stand, and recording device are also recommended. (*Dusty Strings staff can help you and your child find the right size guitar.)

Young Musicians Workshop: Bluegrass Camp - Early Bird

For advanced beginner to intermediate players ages 8 - 14. Play and sing bluegrass music with others in a lively, encouraging setting. Discover the roles of each of the instruments in an ensemble, how to take a solo, and how to jam with others on songs like "Salty Dog Blues" and "Foggy Mountain Breakdown"! The final day will feature a short performance for friends and family featuring the songs they’ve learned. Students should be comfortable accompanying or soloing in the keys of G, C, D, E, and A on guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, cello, or upright bass. Students should have a working guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, cello, or upright bass*. Fiddles (violins) and cellos may be rented through Hammond Ashley Violins in Issaquah. A tuner, music stand, and recording device are also recommended. (*Dusty Strings has one upright bass available in the school.)

Young Musicians Workshop: Ukulele Camp Session 1 - Early Bird

For ages 7 - 13. Discover the foundational concepts of music consisting of rhythm, tempo, pitch, melody, major and minor keys, and more while learning one of today's most popular musical instruments. Learn chords and strumming, start reading music, and play while singing along to a variety of folk and pop/rock songs from the 1920's ("Yes Sir, That's My Baby") to today ("I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz). The final day will feature a short performance for friends and family featuring the songs they’ve learned. Students should have a working ukulele tuned GCEA (soprano, concert, or tenor), which may be purchased or rented through our store. A Snark tuner, PortaStand Minstrel music stand, and recording device are also recommended.
